Having a Plan of Action

It’s always a good idea to keep the big picture in mind when you get started. It’s so easy to get bogged down in the small details that we forget to look at the basics and where we’re trying to get.

I like to build mind maps. A mind map is just a visual representation of the action steps you’re going to take.

Here’s my main mindmap for building and promoting squidoo lenses. Feel free to print it out and use it for yourself and your lenses.

If you’d like to create one for yourself the easiest place I’ve found to create them is at www.bubbl.us

    Hi Jackie,

I found out where to submit the RSS Feed.

I need another clarification. You suggested to build a lens and then move to the next one. Should one have several lenses in the same niche but for different keywords or is it better to diversify?

    Hi Jackie,

I’m using The Squidoo Lens Checklist and one step is to “Submit your lensmaster RSS Feed”. Where should I submit it?

Also I’m not clear on “Comment on blogs using the commentluv plugin”. Where do I find that plugin?

Should I leave the Discovery Tool on?

    Thanks,

You want to use these articles etc to build your ranking for a specific keyword. If you use your targeted kw in the title of your articles at EZA there is a great likelihood your article will outrank your lens. You want to just use your targeted kw in the anchor text of your links.

This is the same throughout all the places you’re creating content to build links back to your lens.

This post might give you some good ideas:

I’m confused about the EZA info, too. Do you mean not to use the keyword in the article, either? You say title/article, that’s why I’m confused.

For the other backlinking, like the free ads, using the exact keyword seems to be okay, right?

    Thanks.

  5. Jackie, I was reading over the mindmap and if I didn’t see wrong it said not to use the KW in the title to your articles at EZA? I am just curious as to why you don’t need to use it in the title. I have been reading your posts and I am very new to Squidoo so I am trying to learn.
    Thanks

      Hi Gail! Welcome!
The reason I don’t use my keywords in my EZA titles is because EZA is a powerful site. Articles on EZA rank quite well in Google. I don’t want an article on EZA to outrank my lens. So I use a different keyword for my title/article and use my targeted keywords in the resource box so it benefits my lens. :)

Hope that makes sense. If it doesn’t let me know and I”ll try again. ;)

    Jackie,

I think having all of the Squidoo Christmas Cash posts and instructions in one place will definitely help!! No more trying to remember where I saw what.

Could you do a post on trying to stay motivated when you are seeing traffic coming to our lenses… but still no sales? After doing some of the backlinking on my initial 10 lenses, I have started to see an increase in traffic… but still no sales.

Is there where I just leave them be and go on and trust that time will just take care of it?

I sure can do a post on that ~ and you need to check the “click throughs” your lens is getting. Traffic is important, but it’s not the most telling piece of information. You need to know how many times people have clicked through to your product. You can find this info in your dashboard under stats -> traffic. At the bottom it will show “clicks”. You’ll need 100 to 200 clickthroughs to make a sale. If you haven’t gotten a sale then, it’s time to reevaluate the content of your lens.

This may seem even more overwhelming, but it will at least give you a point where you know you “should” have made a sale.
