Here’s the basic steps to add a bit of bold to your reviews. Here’s what it looks like when it’s done:
So let’s see how we do it.
1. You need to code to use to make the “review box” You can change the color and the dotted line but here is the code:
You need to use this code exactly. Say this is your review you’re taking from Amazon:
Weber Comes Through Again This is our third grill from Weber, all of which have been an upgrade. First one was their charcoal kettle grill. Overall, we’ve been using the Weber grills for almost 20 years.
Now we’re going to add it to the code: We’re going to take out the TEXT GOES HERE and put our content (review) in between the two carrots.
Now to make the first part bold: We’re going to add the bold tag after the “> but just before the first letter of the review content. We’ll close the bold tag right after the last word you want to be bold.
That’s what the code will look like ~ here’s what it will look like when you publish:
Weber Comes Through Again This is our third grill from Weber, all of which have been an upgrade. First one was their charcoal kettle grill. Overall, we’ve been using the Weber grills for almost 20 years.
The key to making this work is putting the bold tag INSIDE the quotes, and closing the bold tag where you want the bold to end.

I have a question regarding the amazon modules and the amazon html links. When I use the method you described using Squidutils, do I get all of the profits when they buy through this link? Because I know that the profits are shared between Squidoo and myself when I add an Amazon module. I would prefer to use my own affiliate link instead of Squidoo’s for the time being.
Thank you!

Hi Christine,
The squidutils links are not “squidoo” links exactly. They are created by the guy who runs Squidutils. I believe on the poster ads one out of every 10 clicks gets his affiliate id linked to it. So if someone bought that time ~ then the commission would go to squidutils ~ but the other 9 times the full amount would go totally to you.
It’s a toss up ~ convenience or a little more commissions. Personal decision.
Jackie,
I have to tell you that all of your instructions for these little details are just great. My 18-year-old son is getting a little blown away about how “geeky” his Mom is becoming knowing all this stuff to make websites. He is impressed. Not too often we can impress our teenagers, ya know?

Oops! Well, that didn’t work. The coding did it’s job to bold, but you can’t see it. LOL! Let’s try again. Put your brackets ()around the word “strong”, and close the string with your closing brackets () around the word “strong”. This is useful especially when using “b style” coding. I hope this time you get the drift.

I use that same box a lot – it does work, but it won’t work if you make just one little biddy coding error. Check to make sure you haven’t missed anything, like a close tag bracket (>) or a quotation mark (“) or a semi colon (;).
To bold words you can also use the code tag: and remember to close with . Often, once you start coding more, using the can be confusing to the computer when you need to use, for a short example, coding. It is good to know both ways.
Great post Jackie! It will help a lot of people add some eye candy to their lenses.
There are a lot of lenses that have been created to help people with their HTML coding. This one, IMHO, is pretty good for getting the code for different border styles.

I tried adding the dotted box border with color but Squidoo wouldn’t accept it.
Hi Lisa,
where did you try to put it? What exactly did it say or do ~ I’ll try to help you figure out what the problem is.
