Link Building Made Easy with Posterous

We all know links are crucial to the success of our lenses. It’s links that move them up the search listings to the first page so we can get traffic. We also probably know that link building is tiresome, boring and monotonous. However, it’s something that must be done.

There are tons of ways you can build links ~ however ~ I’ve recently come across a way that you can easily create links over a number of high quality platforms ~ all at once, super easy.

I love super easy.

I must say I blew this method off for a long time. I thought it was something those fancy “iphone” people did. I barely have a cell phone so I really didn’t think it was for me. But, guess what! It IS for me. I’m loving it, sending out content, getting links and all in less than 5 minutes a day.

I’m going to post a few videos down below to walk you through the process. There’s a little setup in the beginning, but it’s relatively painless, and within 30 minutes you too will be putting out fantastic links on some of the best sites around.

Don’t worry too much about his talk about the upcoming modules ~ we’re just looking at the platform part. (It is fantastic information ~ so if it gets you excited go ahead and listen ~ it’s all free at the Challenge.

What is Posterous?

Ed talks a lot about using his iphone to mail in his content. You can  use any email service. I use gmail! It has a text editor ~ so you can easily add anchor text links, bold, images, videos etc. All you have to do is hit send!

When adding video to your email post you only have to add the url ~ not the embed code.

I hope you’re getting excited about this! When it finally clicked for me… BAM!

Setting Up Posterous

Let’s start auto posting! Adding sites to Posterous.

I would not worry about setting up a facebook page ~ he’s showing people how to set up a network to promote an entire niche site they are doing ~ a facebook page is not quite as appropriate for promoting a wide variety of lenses.

I hope you see how powerful this Posterous network is, and what a fantastic way it is to build backlinks.  If you have questions about the process please ask them in the comments section. Tuesday I’m thinking about running through some of the ways I use this network to promote some of my sites. If this sounds good ~ please let me know.

Take note of the type of posts he is making to his posterous network. (this was the part that knocked me over with a feather) They are not 300 word articles…. Short, interesting, posts. Think about it.

    Hi Jackie,

You mention ” Ed talks a lot about using his iphone to mail in his content. You can use any email service. I use gmail! It has a text editor ~ so you can easily add anchor text links… ”

Are you referring to using the iPhone mail client, because for the life of me I have been able to figure out how to send an anchor text link via the iPhone mail app to Posterous. It just comes out as HTML code (e.g., <a href="…. ).

    Any thoughts?

Hi Jackie, Just ran across this post and I know it is from last year, but I hope you still get my question. I have listened to the videos, but I can’t find a way to add my Squidoo Pages. Please help!

You don’t add your squidoo pages to the network. You set up the network and then you write short posts either from posterous or send them from email… in those short posts you link to your squidoo lens (using your targeted keyword.) I hope that answers your question… if it doesn’t let me know.

Wow, I have been following the challange, but have gotten behind, I am going to set this up. I love this idea. I am struggling getting my posts up on all these sites. My only question is do we just need 1 posterous account, or 1 account for each lens?

  9. Can I just use regular gmail through my computer? I don’t have an I-Phone.

    • Jackie says:

yes, you sure can. I don’t have an iphone either. :) I’m using gmail from my computer. It works great.

      • That sounds great. I should come over to the KISS forums later with my concerns, but I’m so overwhelmed with all the choices and “gadgets” available for backlinking….

        One Way Links
        Traffic Bug
        Link Packets
        Posterous
        RSS

I’m constantly re-reading your backlinking posts on your other site, but I guess that I have to eat this elephant one bite at a time. I’m so overwhelmed with the task.

So, far all I have been doing is blog commenting. I always leave comments that have everything to do with the post on question and I never talk about my sites. I just make sure to use the linking feature.

Commenting on blogs is something that I already do and I enjoy doing. I have managed to build more links than I realized by doing this. Unfortunately, many are not keyworded linked because a lot of sites just want a name with no keyword, but will link it to URL. So “Lynn” ends up being my anchor text for most of my backlinks.

        • Jackie says:

Traffic bug is great ~ I’m liking it so far. However, you want to have more in “content” links and this is a great way to do that and maximize your time spent. I’m currently doing this and traffic bug for my linking.

It’s best to pick one or 2 things to do for linking. You don’t need to do a million different things (I wrote about a ton of different things so people could find something that worked for them) but pick one or two and stick with it.

It is a good idea that at least one of them provides you with kw anchor text links though. :)

          • Oh I forgot to add IM Automator to the list…

Yes, I re-read one of your posts yesterday that mentioned to at least pick something and do it and do it consistently. Blog commenting is something that I both enjoy and will gladly do everyday.

Yes, I remember that I do have the free Comment Hut Lite downloaded on my computer (another gadget I forgot to mention) and I can try and find more places to comment where I can add a keyword.

FYI- For one of my sites, I went to EzineArticles and found an article that related to the same niche. It was an article where the author wasn’t trying to indirectly be an affiliate. I can tell he was just a writer who liked to write. Anyway, I submitted a comment on the article validating some of the points he made and adding my own thoughts.

I submitted the comments and of course EzineArticles says it can take a few days for them to approve it. I ended up getting an email alert the next day that they accepted my comment. They don’t have a system to link a keyword to URL…..just your name, but I hear that getting a backlink from them in any form is a good boost.

I’d rather do that than write articles for them.

So do you think using Posterous is preferable to using Ping.fm?
Also, I read a post from ezinearticles today saying the same thing about duplicate content. So is there really any reason to use article spinners?

    • Jackie says:

I am liking posting to posterous MUCH better because there is a text editor in my email account. Ping.fm works the same way ~ however ~ it doesn’t have a text editor and if you put a piece of code in it you have to then code the rest of the piece. (putting in paragraph code so it doesn’t all run together). I am finding it much easier to really keep up and use the network doing it from posterous.

about the spinner ~ I don’t know. It would seem that there really isn’t, but it’s hard to let go of that right?! :)

I’ve already got a posterous site going, along with a bunch of other blog sites. I had told you about the problems I was having with ping.fm, so I’ve been doing the links one by one. Blech.
So this is fantastic – I can just set it up the same way, then send out little updates from my gmail and not even have to go to the other sites! Awesome.

Yep ~ it is much better going through posterous. If you have a “christmas” blog or something similar you can also link them up through posterous as well. It will accept any wordpress blog (self hosted included)
